It started as a spreadsheet.
Before it was an app — before it even had a name — Scudo was a spreadsheet. I started it without really knowing what I was doing — I just wanted to understand, at a glance, where my family and I stood financially.
That's when something I didn't expect began: to keep the books properly, I had to actually understand how our finances worked — what saving really means, what investing means, and above all, where our money was quietly slipping away. The more I learned, the better we saved and invested. And the more we watched our net worth grow, the more I wanted to keep learning — it was proof that what we were doing worked. The two fed each other. The snowball started rolling.
And right in the middle of it all was my spreadsheet, barely keeping up. Every time I learned something new — a better way to split our savings, an expense category I'd missed, how to track dividends properly — the sheet fell short, and I had to expand it. It wasn't a plan: it was the tool growing at the same pace we were getting better at understanding our own money.
Our net worth kept growing, sure — I'm not talking about a fortune, I'm talking about a few thousand euros. But the money itself was never the point. What really grew, without me quite noticing, was the other thing: how much we'd learned at home, and how much that spreadsheet had been refined to keep up with it.
For three years I kept at it: learn, save, watch the result, and tweak the tool a little more. Until that spreadsheet matured into something that gave us a real, complete picture of everything we had.
Scudo is that same process, turned into something real. I'm not a finance expert or a professional developer — I'm just an ordinary person whose eyes light up when you bring this up. It's still a living project, because I'm still learning, and the tool keeps growing right along with it.
Today it's the tool my family and I use every week. And now it's time to share it — with anyone who also wants to learn to look after their money, watch it grow, and have something to walk that path with.

As Warren Buffett put it: price is what you pay, value is what you get.
Here, the price is a coffee. The value is the same thing it took me three years to build: real control over your money, and the motivation to watch it grow.
